K/mentertainer March 4, 1967

This issue of the K/mentertainer was the only issue from 1967 that I did not pick up personally. I could not find it. It was not at Lyle's Record City, Sages, Woolworths or anyplace else. I finally got this copy about 10 years ago through a trade with someone in Canada!

When I first saw this issue I think I figured out why. Is it because on the cover and on the inside there are pictures that contain a KFXM survey posted on the wall? Did all the issues get pulled because of that? Or did they just get picked up very quickly that week?

Anyone know the inside story? Was there a story? Why I couldn't find this issue in 1967?

Happy Together by the Turtles finally makes it to #1 on K/MEN

  1. Interesting to note the
    KFXM survey in the background
    while Johnny Darin checks for
new records to play. It's partially
covered but obviously a Tiger Mag
    backside.

    Not a problem, all businesses
have to keep an eye on the
    competition.

Both stations used to keep a
    radio in their control room
to "peek" on what the other
    was playing.

  2. Doug,

Just found your blog. This is wonderful. What high school did you go to and what year did you graduate. I'm looking forward to seeing the listings for October 1967. I think I'm going nuts. I remember a song in that month that I can't find anywhere. Does a song called 'Music Box' sound familiar? It was in the top 5 in the first couple of weeks in Oct. '67. Anyway I'm glad you're sharing the stuff from your room.

  3. MUSIC BOX by a group called
THE LIGHT was one of my great
    favorites. It's on A&M.
I have it on an MP3 now.
I think they were a local group.
The song was great to hear
on the radio and so good to
hear it again 40 years later.

  4. I will see if I can find a K/MEN or KFXM article about The Light to post. Both sides of the 45 were played. The flip side was "Back Up", a garage rock style, which was a lot different from "Music Box".

  6. You guys are my new found friends. I would sure like to have a copy of that "Music Box" mp3. I've been looking for years to no avail. I heard them live in Riverside once. Since info on them or their song shows up no where, I guess they might have been an Inland Empire band

  7. WOW 45 years ago KMEN was born.
    I remember finding them the
next day, 3/11. I think it was
a Sunday like today. What got me was that
they were putting a lot of people
on air with requests. After that,
I too became a fan. Not that
I gave up on KFXM. Now I had 2
    favorite stations in Berdoo.
Yep, like everyone else, it was
a lot of flippin of that AM dial
