Ever wonder when KFXM started to play rock & roll music?  Under jock talk it states 1957.  I've heard 1956 before, but 1973 was closer to that time than 2011.

  1. Funny how the proofreader keeps
putting ROCKY MOUNTAIN WAY on cart.
That's an internal note to the jocks
    and not part of title.
They can play the 45 or a longer
    version on cart.
Listed this way on last few charts.

  2. PREVIOUSLY, K.F.X.M. was owned by the Don Lee organisation, operating as an affiliate for the former Mutual Broadcasting Network. Then, in the year 1956, Howard Tullis, advertising agency executive from Hollywood, purchased the station and, ostensibly, turned the radio programming into a Top-60 rock 'n' roll music format... and the rest is history.

  3. KFXM played the hits 57-62.
    Then it got interesting with
    competition from KMEN.
    62-66 would prove the best
    years of IE radio.
    The jocks, the contests, the
    excitement created by competition.
    Both stations were near a
    financial breakdown by 1965.
    Those can giveaways were not
    cheap and some collaboration between
    station managers came into play.
Or one station was going bankrupt
    sooner or later.
