KFXM DJs April 1974
KFXM DJs in April 1974. Thanks again to John from Fontana (back then)
Remarkably insufferable how Marsh "Mush" Carter was held back from ever being allowed to have a regular weekday show of his own on Tiger Radio. Could this lack of diversity be latent racism by his KFXM employer by only hiring Caucasian males for the regular 5-day-a-week air shifts?
Turns out there was another person of color on the daily schedule at KFXM at this time. Not surprisingly it was in a token time slot. I don't know how long either of them lasted.
The webmaster will likely reveal the other "Brother" (if you excuse the expression).
FYI, Marsh Carter had been doing weekends since around 1970! That's a very long time to not be advanced to the white boys world at KFXM!
However, at least one other 'minority' employee did get a semi-regular weeknight air shift, Vic Moreno, who did Nights in addition to his usual weekend gigs.
Poor Rex Ramsey was deemed "too black and militant" (like a Black Panther) by the powers-that-be at KFXM, and was later summarily fired over an on-the-air mistake -- which many DJ's had also been guilty of!
Well, as they say, Mr. Ramsey did in fact "find Jesus" some time ago and a high-class wife who remarkably straightened out his life. A grandfather, Rex at last report continues as a corporate Vice President of a national bank, after starting out as a Certified Financial Planner. He now is a gentleman with a substantial multi-millionaire dollar income, investments and assets of property. I would say that makes him "changed" for the better and has since shown what a "smart guy" he turned out to be!
Yeaah, I imagine Mr. Ramsey doesn't look too fondly upon his older Black Panther angst days, especially now if he's living in the upper-class of society of wealth and property status!
