  1. 1969 turned out some of
    the most "religious" hits to
    grace the charts:
    --OH HAPPY DAY
    --JESUS IS A SOULMAN
--I GUESS THE LORD MUST BE IN NY CITY
    --WITCHI TAI TO (kinda religious)

    Any others?

  2. yes, Anony, i seem to recall The Winston's 1969 Top 40 hit, "Colour Me, Father (Colour me Love)", "God, Love & Rock 'N' Roll" by Teagarden & Van Winkle, and Neil Diamond's "SOOLAIMON" as other examples of faith-based/religious-oriented pop recordings...
as a matter of fact, the 1969-1970 era produced the most popular mass appeal recordings of this genre -- then-called "Jesus Rock" (e.g., Ocean's "Put Your Hand In The Hand", Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky", "One Toke Over The Line" by Brewer & Shipley, and George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord").
