    "car wars" between the 2
    stations.
    1965 was quite a year for
    car give-aways.
    At one point, the managers
    of the 2 stations together
    decided it was killing both
    on these car prizes.
    I think this is where the
    car freebies came to an end.

  3. ah, yes, the old cost-effective analysis axiom: were sales billing figures profitably commensurate with the expenses -- including the trade-away commercial time given to the car dealers;
    and were the audience ratings significantly increased to justify the overall promotional costs outlay???
    (here's where the stations' bookkeeper/accountant would
    make a difference with the owners)
