Both stations had contests at the same time with a 1965 Mustang as a prize. KMEN added $1,000 cash to sweeten their deal.
Frances Owens, daughter of a former S.B. mayor, was also the Orange Show Queen during the mid-1960's. A very beautiful and charming young lady she was back then!
August 1965 was a great summer month and the Kmentertainer wraps it all up. Great music that will last forever (as far as I'm concerned) and that great KMEN treasure hunt focused south of Bloomington at the end. I was 14 and my parents took my younger brother and me out to look for treasure in those empty fields that seemed to go on forever. Cars were everywhere. Radios were blasting KMEN. It was a cheap way to spend some time.
Up here in San Francisco we got to hear Paul McCartney at the Outside Lands Concert in Golden Gate Park last Friday night (08/09/13). Tickets were sold out so I just walked over and listened from outside the event. It was my first "Beatle" concert, I wish I had been able to go to the K/MEN San Diego Beatles event 48 years ago! Better late then never.

This must be the lazy hazy days of summer...
