Before there was a K/MEN 129

Before 1290 was KMEN it was radio station KITO since 1947. I believe right before they switched over, the music they played was country. But at least one week in the fifties they played Rock 'n' Roll. This is the only survey I've seen for KITO and Put Your Head On My Shoulders-Paul Anka was number 1 the week beginning 10/12/59. Th DJs were Gary Fuller Alan Bowles Dave Lee and Harry Gift and the first two of them worked split shifts. Has any other station done this? Was this a common thing to do?

Anyone have more info on KITO rock years? I have seen no other surveys. Anyone have any others out there?

K/MEN Top Hits of 1965

Today you see the Top 129 hits of 1965 according to K/MEN. Naturally #1 Satisfaction-Rolling Stones, #2 Help!-The Beatles. The normal Beatles, Supremes, Bob Dylan, Four Seasons, Byrds, Beach Boys that made up the usual hits of 1965. But there were other interesting songs in top 129. Gloria by Them #7. Somewhere-P.J Proby #43 The Duck-Jackie Lee #71 Land of 1000 Dances-Cannibal & The Headhunters #95 Whittier Boulevard-Midnighters #120 I thought this 1965 Top 129 would be a good start for what I will start to publish next week. Starting next Wednesday or Thursday I will publish the 1966 K/menentertainer (both sides) starting with January 7, 1966 in order, one a week either on Wednesday or Thursday, until the year is finished.

K/MEN 25th Anniversary/Reunion

1987 There was a 25th Anniversary of K/MEN consisting of the past jocks being on the air, and a concert in Fontana Performing Art Center. The "groups" mentioned in the ad were there, but the "real" groups that were also there were Rosie of the Originals (Angel Baby) and Little Caeser (Those Oldies But Goodies). The flyer states the music of The Boxtops, Spencer Davis Group and The Kingsmen, but I'm not sure who was playing their music. Interesting story about getting tickets to the show. I was driving in Colton with my girlfriend, Kathie (now my wife), and KMEN had a contest giving away two tickets. So I pulled over to call from a payphone (remember it's 1987) and Kathie thought it was a waste of time to stop and call. She did not believe that I won until they announce my name over the air.
There was supposed to be a party somewhere in Ontario afterwards for the K/MEN and the ticket winners. I never did find out where, so we didn't go. Can anyone tell me about the party and who was there?

Broadcast City KFXM-KDUO

KFXM Tiger Mag July 30, 1965. Showing the studios and offices of KFXM-KDUO at the Holiday Inn. It is interesting because the cover usually promoted an event or a musical act. In the article it refers to other San Bernardino station localities. The description seems to describe KMEN and KCKC studios. Ed Grrrrr SEZ a column telling about local events and DJ activities.
Third page is dedicated to KFXM events. Click to enlarge and read.
The fabulous forty survey and dj pictures. I Got You Babe-Sonny & Cher #1 (see artcle on page 2) Plus the top 10 from one year ago.
1965 had the British top 12 as a regular feature.
