Though I was too young to be listening to the radio in 1959 I remember going with my mother and getting that Chipmunk album fom the record department at the San Bernardino Harris store. Either my folks had the radio on or I had heard the songs on TV at sometime.

Wikipedia tells us "Rostom Sipan "Ross" Bagdasarian (January 27, 1919 – January 16, 1972) was an American pianist, singer, songwriter, actor and record producer. He was better known by the stage name David Seville. Bagdasarian is the creator of Alvin and the Chipmunks."

Since his death his son has carried on with his dad's creations.

Thanks Google guy, the info on Dave Seville was interesting but didn't know he had already passed on. Always enjoyed making those chipmunk sounds for my friends on my record player at 78 speed on regular 45's or LPs. Always remember him for that gimmick!

You can see David Seville in a few scenes of Alfred Hitchcock's
1954 Film "Rear Window"
