The Beatles in 1963 on KFXM and K/men

6 Months before The Beatles had their first national hit with I Want To Hold Your Hand, they had a top ten hit on KFXM and K/men. From Me To You peaking at #7 on KFXM, and on K/men peaking at #9

Funny, I don't recall hearing this song at that
time on either station. Guess I wasn't impressed.
It charted well but do not recall it then.
6 months later, yea, it exploded along with
every cut on every album they put out.
This was a trend to follow for 6 years.

It's not too surprising that most pop music radio listeners didn't immediately tune in to the earliest Beatles release in '63.
Reason is, we weren't really ready to hear that new sound yet during that specific point in time. Young people were still milling along in a state of grace under the Camelot of President John F. Kennedy -- who, henceforth, would be horribly assassinated a few months later. Short of the Soviet commies launching a surprise nuclear Armageddon at our country back then to shake us out of our mass lethargy, most everyone was left grieving and trying to come to terms with the first of the bloody awful rude awakenings which would continue ripping our guts out through the Sixties decade.
It was thus, during that brief interim between November 22, 1963 and February 9, 1964, when the youth of America found themselves literally waiting for something -- ANY thing of real mind-blowing substance -- to take us all out of our national mourning and doldrums...
And John, Paul, George and Ringo did just that. The rest if history.

Why did the Beatles succeed: They kept
reinventing themselves. Otherwise,
they would have been a short stay.

Every album that came out, had gold
nuggets. And the next one and the
next one. In the end, the hits you make
are equal to the newness you make.

P.S. -- Timing is EVERYTHING in the music/entertainment business and The Beatles succeeded on all fronts, though in some instances they were really way ahead of their time.

"From Me To You" also was getting airplay at that time in Los Angeles on KRLA .
I lived in Ontario and heard it on all 3 stations. I did buy it in Aug '63.
