KCAA Inland Empire Radio

Inland Empire Radio at it's finest-Tim-Ralph-Bill
Yesterday, Saturday June 9, 2007 from 11:00 am until 1:00 PM Ralph Torres hosted a radio program on KCAA 1050 AM http://www.kcaaradio.com/ , on the topic of Inland Empire radio. The main point of discussion was KFXM and K/MEN. His guests were Bill Earl, an authority on L.A. radio http://billearl.blogspot.com/ and Tim Abney, and Inland Empire radio expert. I was supposed to be there, but family committments kept me away.

The first hour covered the history of the stations, while the second covered more current events on the state of radio today. A few calls into the show, including. Jim-"The Biggest K/men Fan" and Bob Morgan an LA DJ (who also worked at KFXM in 1963 and has a current show on KCAA). You can go to KCAA's website to hear a podcast of the broadcast (and Bob Morgan's shows). The 10:00 hour's topic was "Fast Food In the Inland Empire", so you'll get that first. It was pretty interesting also.

PS: Tim, if you read this it was Fannie Mae by Buster Brown

This shows the Vince Daniels Show June 9, 2007. If you click on listen, you will get 10:00am -1:00pm. I would think all three hours would be there. I did not listen to the whole thing on the podcast. I heard at the beginning the newscaster states that it's 10:00. To go forward, you have to push the fast forward button. Fast forward is slow

You're absolutely right it was "Fannie May" by Buster Brown that ran for a solid 24 hours right before the flip to K/men in Mar of 1962. It dorve my mom nuts because I left it on every waking moment waiting to see what the K/men thing was all about. The podcast includes all 3hours. The first hour John Weeks of the SB Sun was there discussing the origins of the fast food industry in San Bernardino. The following two hours were... One on top 40 radio in Berdoo and one on how messed up radio has become. I got off a Denis Miller rant a bit but it suse felt good. Tim Abney

listened to a downloaded version
of the interview.

Just a minor correction.
You played SAN BERNARDINO by
Christie, same guy that had
YELLOW RIVER.

It is not the flipside of YELLOW
RIVER. Also, SAN BERNARDINO song is
about a city in Switzerland.
it's actually spelled SAN BERNADINO--
No R in there.

About a year ago I read an article about "San Bernadino" in the Sun, with an interview with the writer of the song, and the story stated that he said he did not write the song about the Switzerland city, but the California city. Because it is a city from across the sea, from where he is.
I found it a little hard to believe. Maybe he was just trying to score points to get it to become the City song. But I guess it's possible

Sounds fishy only because
the song is spelled without
an R. I don't think the singer
ever enunciates the R in the title. Besides, the lyrics
do not match the city here.
