We're all thankful for the work Johnny Helm has done to keep the spirt of KFXM and KMEN alive, including his involvement with the current KFXM.com His is a voice that can return us to our high school days (or thereabouts). Just tune-in, close your eyes and flashback!
I betcha the "Who's Johnny??????????????????" Anonymous writer fer sure has cooties. His mom wears army boots. Johnny is neato, Johnny was and is a bitchin dj.
Awwwww, Johnny was over rated in the first place and in the second place, that pompadour of his was Ten Years After it went outa style.
The rest of his rankled, effeminate, juvenile hangers-on are simply crapping on themselves with false illusions about Johnny's dyed in the wool "neato... bitchin" glory. He's definitely a has-been in my book!
Do you remember the Sopranos? If pompadours were good enough for Elvis and still in vogue for the Sopranos I'd say Johnny's style has been mainsteam. Totally bitchin'
What amazes me is the fact, we're talking about my career, over 40 years ago. Maybe I was "over rated", but the fact is that I had a 21.5 ARB rating, (arbitron), in July - August, 1969. True, I was second place in teens, so what? Also note, that the Pulse surveys at the time, I was at an 18 and 19 in the ajacent time frame. I don't pretend to be a Robert W. Morgan, he was the best DJ I've ever heard. All I did was work hard and do my best. Currently, I do a Saturday show at KFXM, for no pay. I do it for the love of radio. I thought about not reponding to you, maybe, just let it lie, but, I must tell you....it hurts. Just kinda wondering what sort of numbers you put up in the Inland Empire? If I had to guess, they wouldn't be as good as mine. In fact, I'm willing to bet on it.
John, so good to hear from you, personally, in response to all the many responses, plus and negative, to your fab career during the Inland Empire's heydays of Golden Age Top 40 AM Radio. yes, you DID come by some impressive numbers in the ratings books during your local announcing broadcasts -- which is certainly something to be proud of! As to your "legacy", let the critics eat their baseless words because YOUR performance over the airwaves speaks volumes for those of us who understood and appreciated what it really too for a dick jockey to "MAK SHOW" (a term borrowed from the old Hamburg Kaiserkeller) every night while retaining a sizable listenership for keeping the stations' advertisers on board. As to your "legacy", the record speaks for itself: you just confirmed your continued ad hoc continuing flashback show heard over online KFXM... and for that admission, Sir, you were, are and remain forever 'THE RADIO GUY'.
You not only insult Mr. Helm, but you insult the entire team of DJ's that followed your tenure. Your hatred shows through, I don't think you've made any friends here on Doug's blog.
I am in agreement about insults being posted here but look back at who threw the first punch. It wasn't the original old man writer, just someone far younger I think. The older gentleman was expressing his opinion and I did not think he was being mean in the first place. At least that's how I read his original post. And I am sure Mister Helm would have been the better man if he had simply let that old announcer guy have said his peace and let it alone. Anyway, it's too bad no one can post any criticisms as part of sharing ones thoughts and observations without all the name calling and insults being banded about. I place the blame on this blog's administrator who has shown himself to be grossly lax when it comes to policing his own website by allowing anonymous posters get away with derogatory, insulting and personally demeaning replies in their postings. And I am really fed up with it as surely other readers must also feel the same about this problem. From what I been reading here, it seems the older bloggers & the younger guys are both at fault for not respecting each others comments and instead hurling all this cruel sounding dialogue which makes coming to Doug's Place not much fun anymore! I usually just stop by here once in a while to look over the new postings and have never before wanted to jump into your conversations. Yet, I just had to let you people know how one blog reader felt so maybe Doug will clean up the negative invective and keep it off his blog for good, so the rest of us who sit on the sidelines can just enjoy the interesting things we see here. Readers who agree with me ought to say so!

Wow. Getting personal.
Guess the elections have brought
out the nasty in a lot of people.
The above comment is my point.
I liked the Helmsman at KFXM-AM
and still do at KFXM.com on
Saturdays.

I wonder if the person complaining about Johnny's hairstyle is bald?

Johnny, over the years, I've considered you one of the best. Always enjoyed your shows. Let's hear it for The Helmsman!!!
