'67 was an awesome year for rock music with the Doors, Stones, Beatles, Animals, and so many other American and British groups that got into the recording business. Although the Viet Nam War was raging on the other side of the world, a new generation was listening and crystalizing its community awareness as a result of the explosion of a new sound with relevant social messages that reverberated with the up-and-coming younger crowd. What a year that was in pop music history!
Yea, loved the big loop. The music evolved around social trends, politics, the war. 1967 was an awesome year, A pinnacle for social movement. It continued through early 70s. But roots are from 66/67.
By the way, Happiest of New Years to our webmaster, the Dougster. Hope yours is a lucky 13. It will be....no Mayan calenders to deal with. Thanks for all your work on this site. Much appreciated.
1967 was such a great year for music, the whole year was labeled, "The Summer Of Love", also the term, "flower power" was used because so many of the songs included references to flowers in some way. Thanks Doug for another year of remembering KFXM and K/men, may your blog keep cranking out the memories!
I hear "To Love Somebody" by the BeeGees and it take me right into August 1967. 45 years ago? Impossible but it was that long ago. Song sounds as great today.
That reference to The DOORS is still right on on the mark. I still get excited chills listening to Light My Fire as the supremo rocker of that era, one sensuous tune at that! But what a contradiction during those tumultuous times with war & peace at issue along with so many other nascent movements just getting underway like the women libbers! Yet that great music from 1967 was a hig water mark for the music scene that it takes only one song to bring me back instantly to the flower power days. add my thanks along with others who have appreciated this nostalgic website. Happy 2013 to you Mr. Dougmaster!!!
Hey man, does anyone know what happened to Ashly Roachclip of the Jefferson Hairpie? Last time I heard he was still road trippin for the Alice Bowie band.
I was at that New Year's Eve show on 12/31/67 at San Bernardino Municipal Auditorium. From what I remember the Box Tops showed up but some of the other bands didn't. The line-up seemed too good to be true for the venue (small) and I think that's exactly how it turned out.
On recalling how I've spent New Year's Eve over the years by far the most interesting and varied years were before I was 30, every year was different and unique. After 30 they seemed to get kind of dull. Now I just go to bed early.
"After 30 they seemed to get kind of dull. Now I just go to bed early."
Dittos except it happened after I tuned 38 years old. And going to bed early is the only sane way of dealing with all the nuts & fruitcakes one may encounter out on the road during New Year's Eve or at one of those L-O-U-D freaking parties. Definitely bad karma for the nerves now!!! A quiet yet meaningful Happy N.Y. to everyone BTW.
