K/MEN in the 2000s
About 4-5 years ago, I took some pictures of the K/MEN towers and former K/MEN studios. This was right after the fire that gutted out the building. I tried to ignore the grafitti on the building, but it's was there.
1290 studios are in an office complex on Iowa Avenue in Riverside. 1290 is Radio Disney. I belive they still share the building with 99.1 KGGI 590 KTIE, the phone book shows Inland Center Drive in San Bernardino.
The times I visited KMEN in the late 1960's were always after dark and I thought I remembered the studio building as a converted house? Was that correct? Was it replaced or extended?
I don't think it was a converted house, but it could have been. I also went out there in the late 60's and I seem to remember it being similar to it's ending state. It was in the middle of a field with no other buildings around, and was a radio station before it became KMEN.
prior to the inception of K/MEN, the station was known as KITO, established 1947. it was only after sale to Crowell-Collier that the call sign was changed along with a new Top format.
On October 1, 2020, iHeartMedia and Immaculate Heart Media announced a swap in which KKDD, along with W292DH in Pittsburgh, would be acquired by Immaculate Heart in exchange for WZAB in Miami; the swap saw KKDD join the Relevant Radio network. the new station format serves the Catholic audience.
