KFXM TigerRadio Studios

Yow! viewing those pictures of the olde KFXM studios in their prime is like walking into a virtual museum, but oh so nice to recall that scene back then.
That KFXM poolside location at the Holiday Inn was just so perfect for the 1960's. I remember stopping by on warm summer evenings to look in the studio window. It was all so open, accessible, and safe back then.
Fer sure, and hanging out there by the Tiger Radio studios had the added benefit of watching some attractive femmes taking a swim (or lounging in skimpy bikinis) in that huge Olympic-sized pool of Holiday Inn's, yes?

Pool not gone but sure aint the size I remember it. Looks like a lap pool.
Stopped there many years ago and looked like the tenants were section 8 people. They were renting by week, month. Very seedy. Felt bad for the kids. Their parents may have run into bad luck and there they were. At least it was shelter. I think the whole place has been turned back into a real hotel after rennovations. I'll check it out next time.
Really too bad about the former Holiday Inn going to the skids... But then again, San Bernardino is now one big cesspool, recently rechristened as "Tijuana De Norte"!!! The Inn, during its glory days, used to be a real garden spot for both travelers and the employees who worked at KFXM/KDUO-FM.
As an old radio guy from the 70's, 80's, 90's, it's a weird hobby of mine to research and look up the addresses of old heritage radio studios and locate the current views of these buildings through google streetview. I guess I got started with interest in the old triangle-shaped KLIF building on Commercial in downtown Dallas and, of course, the Melrose avenue art-deco edifice of KHJ in Los Angeles. This is the latest in my list of "finds". Curious though, what is the old KFXM studio building now being used for on the motel property? I can't be the only one in the world with this "hobby". Anyone else?
I'm afraid my little hobby is quite casual and informal so I do not actually have anything going on-line. However, if you want to locate and view the two examples I previously cited, googlemap and street view the corner of Commerce St. and Cesar Chavez Blvd in downtown Dallas to see the very beautiful, KLIF triangle building (newscruisers used to be parked under the distinctive arches and the on air studio was upstairs at the pointy end)...and..for KHJ, go to Melrose Avenue and N. Plymouth Blvd in West Hollywood, a very fine example of LA art deco that also housed KHJ TV and is located just over the fence from the Paramount Pictures studio lot.
To the Anonymous Hobbyist, thank you for pointing out those two radio buildings on Google Map. I will go there to see it all for myself. If you come up with any more grand station edifices from the past, please post their locations here so fellow bloggers can also take a look. (You have a great hobby, by the way!)
