Cool 45s!
If you like information/pictures about other things that entertain besides radio, then go to my other blog http://djsgone.blogspot.com/ It still has to do with music, andother related topics, such as 45rpms like below
Some cool early rock n roll 45s from my collection Buddy Holly Rave On, one of my favorites by Buddy. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band did a decent cover of this on one of their albums.
Great rocker by Eddie Cochrean Jeannie Jeannie Jeannie. A nice promo copy.
Such A Night Vince Everett. Sounds like Elvis doing an Elvis song. Using an Elvis name.

30 Years Ago Today KFXM (again) & KOLA
Once again let us go back 30 years. The KFXM survey once again, and since there was no KMEN survey, take a look at the KOLA survey.
Don't forget to click on them so they can be enlarged. 4 contests an hour, What were they giving away?

James Brown and Dick Lyons
Danny Dare wrote an interesting article about "So You Want To Be A Disc Jockey" A mention about girls shouldn't bother to become a dj, because the public isn't interested in listening to the female voice on the radio. That has changed, but not too much. It's probably about 5-1 men to women. Any comments about that.
An article about the Grassroots history also included. Does not mention the group change we all know about after their first hit.
Biggest mover into the top ten Mr. Soul/Bluebird-Buffalo Springfield from 18 to #8

XERB Wolfman Jack
While looking through a box of CDs that I haven't played foir awhile, I ran into this Wolfman Jack CD with a compilation of actual airchecks from XERB from 1968-1970.
Quality is very good. The producer (Steve Hoffman) did a good job. You would think it was a continuous show. Not the way it was actually originally heard, but enjoyable.
By the time this is posted, I'll have finished listened to this again. I remember listening to XERB some evenings, probably about 1967-68. Never taped any shows off the air. Worthwhile disc.
Also actually picked up XERB surveys that year at Harris' on E Street.

Picture of the Grass Roots promoting their concert, along with three local groups, The Torquays, The Good Feelins, Blues In A Bottle and The Smoke. That would have been the local concert to see.
Article about the date with Davy Jones.

There is a mention about The Kinks Ray Davies solo album, in which he does a satire of the Beatles Day In The Life. I've never heard it (The Ray Daviess satire, that is). Can ayone tell me about it?

KRTH Firecracker 400 2007
I was really surprised at KRTH's Firecracker 400 this year. It looks like they actually counted the votes. With Louie Louie as #1 that was really unexpected. I believe the only 1950's song is #35 Lla Bamba-Ritchie Valens. There are a few other surprises like #357 Thee Midnighters-Whittier Blvd., but most of the songs are the ones you expect to see. You can check out the whole top 400 at their website.
Here is the top 40

KFXM 96.7
As most of you know, I started listening to the radio on a regular basis in 1966. I started listening to KFXM and then KMEN.
In Lancaster, Ca. and on the internet http://www.kfxm.com/ there is a new KFXM. They play what the original KFXM played back in the 50s, 60s and 70s plus more.
Well, yesterday, The 4th, when I listened on the internet before noon, KFXM sounded really good. Probably 15 out of the 20 songs I heard were songs from 1966! I was listening to the same songs I heard over 40 years ago on the radiop, all over again!
Some of the songs Yellow Submarine-Beatles, Sunshine Superman-Donovan, The Joker Went Wild-Brian Hyland, Yeh Yeh-Georgie Fame, Wild Thing-the Troggs, Leaning On A Lampost-Herman's Hermits. I liked it!
They often do this type of programing. You may haear a theme to some of the songs they are playing.
It's worthwhile checking out the station.
