If it's the same David Gates from BREAD, that would have made him 20 years old. Born 12/11/1940. Possibly could be him. Anyone ever hear this song? I bet it didn't go far on the charts.
David Gates came to L.A. from Tulsa, at about the same time Leon Russell and J.J. Cale did...in about 1960.
The 45 did not go far on the charts, nor did his other early recordings under his own name and under various other group names...Gates had to wait for a decade to have serious sales.

David Gates was around in 1963
he wrote the Murmaids hit "Popsicles & Icicles"
So Gates was 30 when MAKE IT
WITH YOU broke out.
