1971 KVCR

Something a little bit different.   I was going to Valley College in 1971, so I picked up a copy of their 1971 Soundathon top 100.   Not sure how they determined the order, but slightly remember something about voting for you favorite song.  This was when KVCR was a student station.  Too bad it wasn't a top 200 or 300.    Mimeograph was the standard then.
Oldest song appears to be Theme From A Summer Place from 1960.

That KVCR survey is a great scan. I can almost smell the mimeograph paper.

Dittos the previous post.
Imagine how far we've come along,
technology-wise, since those fabled days of the mimeograph machine.
An entire generation grew up INHALING those chemical-induced fumes, so is it any wonder that those kids eventually got hooked on harder stuff, like marijuana?!! (LOL)

One more thing: I do recall listening to a soundathon show
played on KVCR-FM during the Orange Show, but I'm not sure exactly when.
Anyway, since Kmen had retired theirs, the Valley College DJ's did produce an entertaining program featuring their tally of the greatest hits of all time
(up to that date).
I recall having made some rough notes of their countdown (which have been undoubtedly lost), so it's just an unexpected pleasure to have an actual KVCR-FM Soundathon made available here.
Thanks to the webmaster Doug!

"This was when KVCR was a student station."

Yeah, sure, that was BEFORE that horrid leftist organization Public Radio Internation (PRI) took over and shlepped all future students out of any local training and experience for broadcasting studies.
Everything comes out of New York via satellite or whatever, leaving no room for students to perform their own locally-produced shows.

Congress ought to make PRI give all the former college radio stations back to the students!

Hey Dougmaster....
Were you in the Telecomm department
or another subject?

Just took general education classes for two years at Valley, then transfered to Cal State.

Dougmaster, so what was your major at Cal State, in broadcasting?

Maybe the Dougmaster was too smart to major in broadcasting (present company excepted)!

Or the flip side of the coin:

Maybe the Dougmaster was not smart enough to major in broadcasting
(present company excepted)!

Say, Doug, you know it would a real fine addition to your blog by posting more of these KVCR-FM top40 music surveys, if you got them. Thank you for considering this suggestion.
