Christmas songs have their own little survey The K/men Sound Of Christmas
18 comments:
the female vocal trio group Candy & The Kisses, formed by two sisters and a classmate, were from Port Richmond, New York and achieved only moderate success nationally with their first and only hit, "The 81" (issued on Cameo Records).
this collectible record could net around $50.00 for a VG copy.
I'd say that's a little high...more like 8-10. Not all that rare.
Now what do you know about the Rockin' Berries on Reprise?
according to several record collecting sources i utilise,
the average minimum for the ORIGINAL pressing of "The 81" would be around $35.00 for
a copy in Very Good Condition;
a Mint Condition record is valued @ $50.00... however, as with all collectibles, stipulated sale values are influenced by location, market buzz and historical factors among others. just wish THIS item was in my own collection!
in response to the query about
The Rockin' Berries:
although this British "beat" group (from Birmingham) never achieved any national hit status in the States, they did score two hits "Bubbling Under" -- which means their records were regional hits at best.
The Reprise Records label pressed the following songs as 45-RPM singles:
1964 - "He's In Town" (0329A)
1964 - "Flashbook" (0329B)
1965 - "Poor Man's Son" (0377A)
1965 - "Follow Me" (0377B).
Yeah, you're right about "The 81"...according to your "record collecting resources" which I'm sure are much more valid than my several decades of visiting record shows and sifting through literally tons of 45s in my fruitless search for "The 81" under the $35 to $50 mark.
BTW, I have several extras of "The 81" if you really want it that bad. Just get me a copy of "Where You Is" by Fat Daddy Holmes, a KFXM top 20, in trade and we're done.

Merry Christmas,

to Metablogger:
in response to your offer for a genuine copy of "The 81", at present do not have that 'Fat Daddy' record for trade, sorry.
however, you may find Fat Daddy Holmes' two songs "Chicken Rock" and "Where Yo Is" for download at this URL address:
furthermore, a list of LP record compilations which has Holmes' music cuts an be found at:
BTW: any chance in Siberia that you may have "Theme From Kumbaya" (instrumental) by "The People's Assembly" on Laurie Records #3597?????? this particular single has been a very tough cookie for me to find despite -- like you have -- my persistent efforts at
"visiting record shows and sifting through literally tons of 45s in my fruitless search for" the past three decades. {leastwise, your music wants can be downloaded on the Net, but this One has had no such luck.}

New Yeare to you, Steve, and all the gang here at Doug's Place!!!
Dantius.
I'm sure LDS is very genuine in his remarks. But, I remember when I was a kid.....how I hated know-it-alls. At age 65, it still applies.
LDS does not know it all.
I appreciate his sincere input.
He makes an effort to educate.
If others take it as one up on you,
then you have an opinion and not
much more.
The blogging here is educational.
Don't take another's tude as a
put down.
Hey LDS: Keep on trucking !!
OPEN LETTER TO ANONYMOUS AND JOHNNY HELM.................
to Anony: thanking you for being more open towards accepting my Bits & Pieces from an historian/journalist's point-of-view. certainly this One is pleased to post -- what good ole Sgt. Joe Friday usta say -- "Just the facts, Sir, JUST THE FACTS." and why so? because i believe it's worth SHARING, that's all.
to Johnny: thank you for all the quips and jibes you have posted on my behalf. you'll never know how much i once deeply admired your showmanship back in your radio days (even my still-living mother thought you were cool). which is why, out of deference to you, this One had changed his tact (resisting the pedanticism/academia-approach of my earlier blog entries), and just trying for a simpler, conversation-friendly manner in my postings.
and like you, when i was but, a wee lad, i DISLIKED people who put
down others if no other reason than they "found 'them' obnoxious".
and at age 59, it still applies, know what i mean, John?
meantime, i ask fellow bloggers to head over to YouTube.Com and give a listen to John Ono Lennon's "Happy Christmas (War is Over)"...

About a certain comment above:
Sometimes the things we hate about
others are the same things we
hate about ourselves subconsciously.
It's like looking in the mirror when
we despise a characteristic about
someone else and resent they remind
us about it.
Others tend to remind of us of the
same things we don't like about
ourselves. We all have more in common
than not. Haven't you ever met someone
and didn't like them instantly? Reflections
in the mirror of life !!
Think about it. If it makes sense, apply
it. If not, discard it.
LDS, I do appologize, maybe I'm overcritical. I do enjoy many of your comments, but I had a few too many drinks last night, and got carried away. Please forgive me.
9 points for the Helms man.
ADD 91 MORE POINTS FOR JOHNNY 'THE HELMSMAN".....
you honour me, John, and without
hesitation, apology accepted and all is hereby GRATEFULLY forgotten.
and, P-L-E-A-S-E, Sir, know ye that this One is NOT the all-powerful Oz, "knowing all things", but rather, is just an individual
who has always enjoyed learning, taking in ALL things around him and continues to learn new things each and every day. that's my philosophy and i stand by it, hoping a little more knowledge will light the way before me.
am sending you my personal
INSTANT KARMA from the Good Vibe Land with all good felicitations and fellowship therein. it's my gift of offering for the Season.
P.S. i would ask your permission to inform me mum (the next time she & i connect via long-distance old-style telephone) that 'the one' Johnny Helm is alive and doing well??? i know this elderly fan of yours would joyfully welcome this news. thank you in advance.
most humbly,
yours truly --
Dantius.
Thanks for the tip on Fat Daddy - I'm working on getting an interview - of course, this finely tuned panel of experts is well aware Fat Daddy is also the impetus behind Strawberry Alarm Clock.
And it's my great pleasure to do my part to fan the flames of an ongoing clash of major league egos.
Merry Christmas to all...as politically incorrect as that greeting might be...and happy New Year's also.
Steve
