Was this the 2nd charting of ANGEL BABY
by Rosie on KFXM? I seem to remember it
on KFXM back in 59. Might have been
a regional thing and this time a national
hit. Same label.
FOURTEEN YEAR OLD ROSALIE HAMLIN wrote "Angel Baby", a poetic piece, while she was still in a San Diego high school... later, she along with some fellow classmates who were musicians, recorded a DEMO single 45-RPM disk at a private studio; and it was THAT master recording which eventually led to Highland Records signing "Rosie & The Originals". Their first issued disk under that label (Highland 1011) was around 1 December 1960 and peaked nationally at #5 on the pop music charts in January 1961.
the Highland Records 45 single has a market value of $60.00 in VG condition.
the disposition of Miss Hamlin's original DEMO master disk is a matter of mystery despite decades of court battles waged on the singer's behalf for her rightful share of the songwriter's royalties and proper authorship crediting.
POST SCRIPT FOR ANONYMOUS:
a song titled "Angel Baby" appearing in a 1959 KFXM music survey could be difficult to verify since only one weekly "Fabulous 59" chart has ever shown up -- dated 18-25 April 1959 -- on this blogsite and no where else that i have checked.
perhaps a fellow blogger out there somewheres might make ANY PRE-1960 KFXM survey(s) available for the rest of us, yes?
I know Rosie Hamlin, and through several extensive interviews, she's always made clear that the song was recorded c. Nov. 1960, making this the first chart appearance.
Dean Martin had an "Angel Baby" in '58, maybe that's the one you recall.

P.S. Angel Baby is a very common 45, $5 to $15 if in pristine condition.
I own about 20 copies in my house & garage, so that doesn't mean I have $1,200 worth of vinyl from that title by any means.
RE CURRENT COLLECTOR'S VALUE
for "Angel Baby" by Rosie & The Originals (HIGHLAND RECORDS #1011
with issue date 2 December 1960:
in January 2005, Rosie's SECOND 45-RPM single issued by Highland sold for $125.00;
and in September 2008, her LP record album titled "Lonely Blue Nights" sold for #113.00.
all current collectors average appraisals still value a mint condition copy of "Angel Baby" at minimum $90.00.
if Steve "own[s] about 20 copies in [his] house & garage", then it would be worth checking to see if, indeed, you do possess the ORIGINAL pressings as listed above.
(if so, then this One would be obliged to take all those worthless records off your hands for a buck a piece!)

"Lonely Blue Nights" (as well as "Angel From Above")- the "second" Highland label single you reference certainly is in the 3 figure bracket - that's because it was issued illegally (& quickly withdrawn) as Rosie had signed to the mob-connected Brunswick label, which issued the referenced very valuable LP.
Which has nothing to do with "Angel Baby," a 45 that sold in the seven figures back in the day - and is currently about as common as In-N-Out locations in So Cal.
Again, I must rely on my frequent sojourns to record shows - as well as thrift stores - not to bring up the 7 books I've had published on the subject.
And your credentials? You own a book?
