The K/men Are Coming! The K/men Are Coming!

If all things work correctly tomorrow morning, Harley Davidson will be bringing back K/men129 at 6:00 am Pacific Time Monday March 10, 2008, the 46th Anniversary of the beginning of the original.

Harley was the last Program Director at 1290 KMEN San Bernardino back in the 1990's, and will be the first on the air at Kmen129.com

He is planning a lot of for the station, music and entertainment covering yesterday and today. A lot of surprises for your listening pleasure.

I listened this morning.
Not sure about this format.
Internet radio stations are
created on a niche. Narrowcasting
if you will.
This format is even worse than
a broadcast station trying to
please everyone.
Oldie oldies to rap.
Don't think so!!
Regroup and come up with a unique
sound.
The spectrum of music is too
broad.

So it's more of a 70s
format. So be it.

But I do like Harley jocking
the music. He's very good.

KFXM.COM versus KMEN129.COM - It's not "Gentlement, start your engines" it's "Gentlemen, flip your bits"

Davidson needs to get any surviving KMEN air talents to cut promos for this internet channel that can be played throughout the day. Also, it would be a good idea if THIS site can be used to cross-promote Davidson's site...in other words, Davidson handles the audio, and Doug can deal with the image displays.

Listening to the station, it
needs quality control on
the sound.
It sounds muddy. Sounds worse
than an AM station.
Sounds like audio range
goes from 50 Hz to maybe
3KHz. at best. Tweek it up because
it is annoying to be missing
the upper end of frequency
response.
Thanks

I couldn't agree more with the last comments. First time I've had a chance to listen, and what a disappointment. The frequency range sucks, misses much of the songs, portions are inaudible. I have my computer set up to run thru the stereo. And the jingles?? Geeze....It's K/MEN 129...not K M E N.

I couldn't agree about the audio more than those who commented. It almost stopped the launch yesterday. Last week, I fried the power supply on the main computer. This resulted in only one channel playing back on all of the sound cards. After tearing the system apart tonight I noticed a blown capacitor on the motherboard, replaced it, and now both channels play in full monophonic sound. I'll be testing a stereo stream soon. If my allocated bandwidth will support it, KMEN129 will stream stereo fulltime. I also installed some processing, so the stream is LOUDER and brighter. I may back down a bit later though. I need to hear it on several different systems.

Harley, it's much better since you fixed the blown capacitor and tweaked the stream. I'ts brighter, but you still have problems with distortion. Keep working at it, it's natural to have problems occur when delving into a new venture. Good Luck!

Would have been nice if you had used something universal for playback like Windows Media Player or Real Audio...can't even get the thing to play so I guess I'll skip K/MEN...

That would be nice. I'm using Shoutcast software for streaming because it's free. Since Nullsoft owns Shoutcast and Winamp, the Winamp player works best. Older versions of Windows Media Player work, but people have had issues with the latest version. Since this isn't a money making venture, the amount of cash I can invest is minimal, so it is what it is.

Sorry.

I have RealPlayer as my default and it works just fine.

I don't get the point of this station.K/men had it's major success in the '60's.By the early '70's it was pretty much over.

Why bother to call it K/MEN? It's just one person playing mostly '70's songs. It has very little to do with what made the real K/MEN one of the most original & fun stations of it's era.
