This week in 1959 on KFXM

1959 might not be the first year KFXM put out surveys, but I haven't seen any earlier than March 1959.  Here is this week 54 years ago.
Elvis Presley, Everly Brothers, Drifters, Coasters, Eddie Cochran, Ray Charles, Fats Domino all on the survey this week.

KFXM Misprints

These are KFXM Tiger Mags I picked up in 1967.   They managed to get to the stores in their misprinted forms.   If I remember correctly, I picked these up at Woolworths.

Jonny Bruce KFXM KMEN KDES

Jonny Bruce who was a dj at both KFXM and K/men, has been working at KDES in Palm Springs for the last 20 years...until recently.  He left a message for me that his services were no longer needed at KDES.  But he states that he "...got the PD gig at KZPO...", so he's doing okay.
On another note.  Probably about fifteen years ago, I called KDES and requested Rave On by Buddy Holly from Jonny, and he played it in about ten minutes.
This picture is from 1968, from the KFXM Tiger Mag.

KVCR #3

The last KVCR survey I have from 1977.  It is now being printed.  I probably picked this up at a record store.  Anyone else out there have any KVCR surveys that they would like to share?

More KVCR

By request, another KVCR survey.  I only have three, so here is the second one, from sometime in 1973.

1971 KVCR

Something a little bit different.   I was going to Valley College in 1971, so I picked up a copy of their 1971 Soundathon top 100.   Not sure how they determined the order, but slightly remember something about voting for you favorite song.  This was when KVCR was a student station.  Too bad it wasn't a top 200 or 300.    Mimeograph was the standard then.
Oldest song appears to be Theme From A Summer Place from 1960.

KFXM K/men This Week in 1966

This is about the time I started to listen to the radio on a regular basis, and really liking the music.  Anything older than June 1966 was an oldie to me because it was not being played on a regular basis, and not being heard everyday.   Maybe I think most of these are great songs because of that, but maybe they are great songs.
I remember being over at my cousins house in Rialto listening to Chuck Christensen attempting, and succeeding, to stay awake and break the world's record and doing so.

KFXM Promotion 1981

The only self promotion of the radio station I found on the 1981 surveys was a couple surveys listing the djs.  Nothing else, but at least you can see who was at the station in 1981.
The signatures are from August, and the lineup times are from March.  Everyone on the March survey have their signature on the August survey, plus you see a few other names.

KFXM 32 Years Ago 1981

32 years ago seems like a long time to look back in your life.  I guess it is, but to many of us 1981 just doesn't seem that long ago (unless your in your 30s or younger) There are still a few remnants of the earlier days of rock and roll.  Neil Diamond, George Harrison, Gary US Bonds still on the charts

Johnny Helm and Doug DeRoo

I received this picture from Johnny Helm (who in return received it from Doug DeRoo) According to Johnny, this was a remote at the Orange Show around April 1968.  For those that don't know, Johnny is the tall guy in the center above the X in KFXM, and to his right is Doug DeRoo.  Anyone else recognize themselves in the picture?
Thanks, Johnny!

School's Out 1972

Someone mentioned their favorite song from this time of year.  School's Out-Alice Cooper.  It made its debut on KFXM June 23, 1972  as a Future Hit.  Got up to #4.  No KMEN surveys from middle of June until the end of September 1972, so I cannot tell you how it did on their survey.  I remember when this came out not too much hard rock being played.  This was more of a mellow 1972 with songs being played by Wayne Newton, Neil Diamond, America, Sammy Davis, Jr., David Cassidy and Donny Osmond and so on.
Good lineup on KFXM for the summer of 1972 Doug Collins, Chris Roberts, Bruce Chandler, Johnny Kaye, Ron Christian and Vic Moreno.

KFXM Studios Dick Lyons 1967

Dick Lyons in the KFXM studios around April 1967.   This might have been published in a Tiger Mag, but I have not seen it there.
With thanks to Vic Moreno for the picture.
