KFXM Promotion 1981

The only self promotion of the radio station I found on the 1981 surveys was a couple surveys listing the djs.  Nothing else, but at least you can see who was at the station in 1981.
The signatures are from August, and the lineup times are from March.  Everyone on the March survey have their signature on the August survey, plus you see a few other names.

KFXM 32 Years Ago 1981

32 years ago seems like a long time to look back in your life.  I guess it is, but to many of us 1981 just doesn't seem that long ago (unless your in your 30s or younger) There are still a few remnants of the earlier days of rock and roll.  Neil Diamond, George Harrison, Gary US Bonds still on the charts

Johnny Helm and Doug DeRoo

I received this picture from Johnny Helm (who in return received it from Doug DeRoo) According to Johnny, this was a remote at the Orange Show around April 1968.  For those that don't know, Johnny is the tall guy in the center above the X in KFXM, and to his right is Doug DeRoo.  Anyone else recognize themselves in the picture?
Thanks, Johnny!

School's Out 1972

Someone mentioned their favorite song from this time of year.  School's Out-Alice Cooper.  It made its debut on KFXM June 23, 1972  as a Future Hit.  Got up to #4.  No KMEN surveys from middle of June until the end of September 1972, so I cannot tell you how it did on their survey.  I remember when this came out not too much hard rock being played.  This was more of a mellow 1972 with songs being played by Wayne Newton, Neil Diamond, America, Sammy Davis, Jr., David Cassidy and Donny Osmond and so on.
Good lineup on KFXM for the summer of 1972 Doug Collins, Chris Roberts, Bruce Chandler, Johnny Kaye, Ron Christian and Vic Moreno.

KFXM Studios Dick Lyons 1967

Dick Lyons in the KFXM studios around April 1967.   This might have been published in a Tiger Mag, but I have not seen it there.
With thanks to Vic Moreno for the picture.

KFXM's Al Anthony Before KFXM

Before Al Anthony was at KFXM, he was at KAFY in Bakersfield.  For your comparison, here is the KAFY survey with Al's caricature, along with the KFXM survey of the same date.  Quite a difference in survey song positions from radio stations with the same owners, not that far away from each other. Notice that the pick hits of the week were the same.

New Posts

Hello everyone-
I'm having computer problems.  Taking the computer in tomorrow.  Using someone else's right now.  Probably won't have a computer to use where I can post pictures for maybe 4-5 days, maybe longer.  Hopefully be back within a week.   Hope I don't need a new computer, but you never know.   Psychadelic lightshow for your entertainment.
KFXM and K/MEN will be back (in this blog)

KFXM Over 60 Years Ago

Here's something a little different.  Before KFXM played top 40/rock'n'roll, and before I was born.  Notice the change in the frequency ?  A little something from 1952.

K/MEN and KFXM This Week in 1966

Lots of good songs this week.

The number 1 song on K/MEN this week Soul and Inspiration-Righteous Bros
The number 1 song on KFXM this week Bang Bang-Cher
On K/MEN it is number 2, but lists the flip side as Our Day Will Come.  Looked it up and it was released with two different flips.  Needles and Pins, the other flip side.

The Supremes and The Beatles topping the charts.

Who won the 2 + 2 Mustang on KFXM?

This Week March 1963 KFXM and K/men

A bunch of good songs on the charts this week.  Some I like: End Of The World, Wild Weekend, In Dreams, Our Winter Love,  Don't Set Me Free, Pipeline, Ruby Baby, Send Me Some Lovin', Don't Make Me Over, Hitchhike, Surfin' USA
Less than a year before the Beatles start having hits.  People have said music wasn't very good in the early sixties before the Beatles hit.   If you look at just these songs, they were wrong.  The Beatles added to the music scene in the US, but they added to a good thing.

Hey a few djs on KFXM will soon be headed for K/MEN

KFXM and K/men This Week In 1967 Johnny Darin Article

KFXM and K/men surveys in 1967.  Both feature Happy Together-The Turtles as the #1 song.   This is one of my favorite times for music.  Many songs on these surveys I really like.  Good stuff!

Couple of my favorites on the KFXM survey I Feel Free-Cream No No No No No-Scott McKenzie
Couple of myfavorites on the K/men survey Break On Through-Doors Yellow Balloon-Yellow Balloon
This is the one K/men survey from 1967 that I did not think existed, because I did not find a copy of it in 1967.   I had all the other ones, but the stores where I usually picked up my surveys did not have this one.   About 15 years ago I bought this from someone who lives in Canada.  Did this get pulled because of the pictures with the article?  Look closely, there is a KFXM survey on the K/men bulletin board.  The 2nd picture was partially blocked out, but the one on the cover was very obvious.    For this reason, this issue may be even rarer than the rest.
